SILAKBO 2018 (Part 2)

De La Salle Lipa
December 7, 2018
Psychological First Aid (PFA)

All the seniors taking up psychology. (Photo not mine)
A few days before the seminar a tragic accident happened in a nearby town. A van filled with Lasallian students flipped and all the passengers were brought to the hospital for various injuries. Sadly, some did not make it. It was an unfortunate news for the friends, family and whole community to have heard about their fate.

So then, along came this seminar topic of ours, it was never planned along with the car crash, but however coincidental it became the more relevant the topic came about. Usually psychological first aid is associated with war, natural disturbances, and trauma, but within the three part seminar, we now know it has a wide range.

There were certain similarities between the three speakers talk about PFA here are some:

  1. Respect means you should be well knowledgeable about the culture, the happenings and events before getting a hold.
  2. Understanding, this their time to be listened give it to them.
  3. Do not give false hope to them, it may worsen the pain they are feeling.
  4. Look after yourself as well.
One of the speakers from the first day of the SILAKBO series.

The second day and third part of the seminar. Moved venue.

When providing PFA, and you feel being emotionally affected, remember that you are there to help them and that you don't want to be burden to them, that is why it should be done objectively.

The whole seminar was redundant yet informative, and yes relevant.
